Reimagining a Gateway Bridge with Baltimore Icons

The Corridor of Colors transformed the 8,000-square-foot Maryland Avenue Bridge into one of Baltimore’s largest murals, connecting Penn Station to Mount Vernon through art and storytelling. The mural, designed by artist Saba Hamidi, celebrates the city’s identity by weaving hidden icons and imagery into a vibrant composition along a major commuter and pedestrian route.

Project Overview:
Connecting Communities through Vibrant Art

  • Led outreach and engagement to unite multiple neighborhood voices around the mural’s design. Produced an artist video, facilitated public surveys, and gathered input at community meetings and Artscape to shape a shared creative vision for the bridge.

  • Transformed a key bridge into a city landmark celebrating Baltimore’s identity. The mural launched the Falls Gateway corridor, bridging art, infrastructure, and community while inspiring continued investment in creative public spaces.

  • As the first completed project of the Falls Gateway Masterplan, the mural embodied the plan’s vision—using color, storytelling, and collaboration to spark a series of future art-driven improvements along the corridor.
